The Southern Nevada Water Authority's Water Smart Landscapes Rebate is the main cash-back program in the Las Vegas Valley for homeowners and businesses who replace grass with water-smart landscaping. It's paid per square foot of qualifying turf removed, and it's been running for years as one of the more effective large-scale grass-reduction programs in the country.
What generally qualifies
SNWA's program has real requirements: a minimum coverage of living plants (not just gravel), drip irrigation on its own zone separate from any remaining turf, and specific documentation before-and-after. Artificial turf and pool decking typically don't count toward the converted square footage the same way a planted, water-smart design does. Rates and exact rules change, so we design to SNWA's current requirements rather than an old number we remember.
Why a typical lawn is worth converting
A typical Las Vegas Valley household can use several thousand gallons of water a year on turf that mostly gets walked across or mowed, not actively used — which is the whole reason a rebate this large exists in the first place. A well-designed water-smart yard uses a fraction of that while still looking intentional, not like the lawn was simply given up on.
